Principal's Message

MHS Principal, Mr. Scott Wells

My name is Scott Wells, and I am the proud and honored principal of Morton High School, Home of the Panthers.

I grew up in Smith County, where I attended and graduated from Mize Attendance Center. After receiving my Associate in Arts degree at Jones County Junior College, I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Animal and Dairy Science. While in college, I realized my passion for education and working with young people. I made the important decision to become a teacher. I earned my teaching credentials and my Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Mississippi State University.

Over the past seventeen years, I have had the opportunity of working in a variety of educational settings. I taught agriculture and vocational classes for fourteen years. I was an assistant principal for one year. As I begin my third year as the Principal of Morton High School, I am thoroughly impressed with the dedication and enthusiasm of the MHS staff. I look forward to meeting and working with our students and parents. A strong home-school partnership is critical to the success of our students; together, we’ll create great opportunities for our kids.

My wife of 17 years, Misty McCurdy Wells, works as the guidance counselor at Betty Mae Jack Middle School in Morton. We have two boys, Jon Tyler and Trenton, who attend Scott County Schools and one daughter, Neleh that attends day care.

I am excited about the 2017 - 2018 school year.
