Honor graduate of Morton High School - 1986

Honor graduate of ECJC - 1988

Honor graduate of the University of Mississippi - 1990 (Secondary Edu. / English)

I have been teaching at Morton High School since l990.  I have taught predominantly English II (tenth grade), but I have also taught the following courses:  Accelerated English II and IV, Advanced Placement English Lit. and Composition, oral communication, debate, and language.  In 2000, I became a "national board certified" teacher.

I tell my students that they will rarely encounter someone who loves teaching more than I do.  I believe that teaching is a true calling, and I encourage others to pursue this career.  I can say with complete sincerity that I have a very rewarding job.

I am the former Marsha Livingston of Pulaski, Mississippi.  I am married to Dan Barnes of Ludlow, and we have two sons: Blake and Garren.  In my spare time, I enjoy reading, playing the piano, watching funny sitcoms with my family, and working on my novel.   I attend Independence United Methodist Church near the Pulaski community, where I was raised.  I come from a long line of educators:  my maternal grandparents, Mr. J.J. and Mrs. Mildred Waggoner taught school for a combined 60+ years in small schools across two states, including Morton; my mother was a first grade teacher's aide at Morton Elementary in the 1980s; my father, the late Representative Dick Livingston, was a former football coach and social studies teacher at Lake and Morton; and my youngest sibling, Jennifer Livingston, is a language arts teacher at the middle school in Forest.
